La Bataille de Cambrai pour la 51 HIGHLAND
The Highland Division advanced from Flesquières between the two divisional boundaries on the map . The 4th Gordons were on the right of the advance and the 7th Argylls on the left but they became separated and 'A company of the 4th Seaforth Highlanders was therefore ordered forward to fill the gap between the Gordons and the Argylls (History of the Highland Division,Bewsher , 1920)
Mackintosh was attached to 4th Seaforths and reached a sunken road with some of his platoon .(X on the map) 'My grandfather had just placed a full pan(magazine)onto the(Lewis)gun in preparation for firing .The bullets were"cracking" around them .Lt. Mackintosh who oncoming Germans and was shot directly through the mouth into the head . He died instantly .'
